WAIALUA (KHNL) -- In honor of Earth Day, marine artist and avid waterman Hilton Alves will begin work on a community mural, depicting Waimea Bay, surf and marine life that will span Waialua High School's gym wall.
The mural is part of a larger project called Surf Art Kids. The social project aims at exposing young people to environmental awareness and foster in them a respect for the ocean and marine life through art.
Alves will begin the mural on April 21 and will finish just in time for the Waialua Complex Education Fair on May 1.
This mural is Alves' fifth in as island school.
Past murals include one at Waialua Elementary School, two at Sunset Beach Elementary School and one at Waialua High School.
