HONOLULU (KHNL) -- To help celebrate Earth Day, Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii is encouraging people to buy new Earth Day bags.
B.E.A.C.H has different reusable bags available: standard with wide base (for grocery shopping; fold-up bag with zip (for other shopping and handy to carry around); bottle bag with padded base and six compartments (for carrying glass bottles and jars).
The bags cost $3 to $3.50 each and are available through the B.E.A.C.H. Web site. It's also available at Kale's Natural Foods in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center and at B.E.A.C.H. booths at the UHM Earth Day Fair (Fri. 18th April, 11am - 4pm), Kokua Festival (Sat. 19th & Sun. 20th April, 2:30pm - 10pm both days), KCC Earth Day (22nd April, 10am - 3pm) and Punahou School Sustainability Fair (Fri. 25th April, 9am -4pm).
B.E.A.C.H. co-founder Suzanne Frazer says reusable bags are much better than plastic bags.
"Bringing a reusable bag with you when shopping is one of the easiest ways that everyone can help reduce plastic bags in the environment," said Frazer.
All proceeds will benefit environmental education, litter prevention campaigns and beach clean-ups.
