Sunrise Under $20: Waikiki Aquarium

Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With the economy being the way it is, we asked the question, "What can a family of four do for under $20?"

It took a lot of research, but we came up with a few ideas. Our first...is the Waikiki Aquarium.

Admission for adults is $6 and children $4. A family of four for $20. If it's furlough Friday, school kids get in free with a paying adult.

"Kids come here to have fun but they're like sponges, they learn so much. And there's always a lot of staff, a lot of volunteers around to ask questions to and often they'll show the kids what's in the exhibit. Explain what's there, and explain what the biology is."

One place that you definitely want to check out is the monk seals. Try to be here when they are getting fed. They change the times every day to keep it random like it is in the wild, but if you call ahead you can find out when that is, if you promise not to tell the monk seals.

What is the fish with the longest Hawaiian name? It's not what you think.

The Waikiki Aquarium ranks as a great place to the family for under $20. Fun for everybody and educational.
