HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii hotel occupancy fell on Maui last week and remained low on other neighbor islands, Hospitality Advisors LLC reported Friday.
Maui occupancy fell to 67% with average room rates down 5% from the same time last year to $218, still the highest average rate in the state but far below what Maui commands in summer.
Kauai occupancy was 52%, down five points from year-ago levels, and Big Island occupancy was flat at 53%. Oahu remained 73% full with room rates discounted 5% from last year.
Nationwide hotel occupancy has been 60%, Smith Travel Research LLC reported Thursday.
