LÎHU'E, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tuesday morning at 4:25 a.m. a car accident took place that caused a 71-year-old Koloa mans car to collide with 43-year-old Kalaheo man in Lihue between Wal-Mart and Wilcox Hospital.
The 71-year-old man who was identified as Charles Cushman, was heading north when he drifted across two southbound lanes. He struck a vehicle which caused his car to flip over on the right side. Cushman was pinned inside the car and was transported to Wilcox Hospital where we was pronounced dead.
The other vehicles driver, a 43-year-old man, had minor injuries and declined medical treatment. He was released at the scene. The passenger, a 27-year-old female was uninjured.
Kuhio Highway was closed with traffic re-directed to Ehiku Road and the Wilcox entrance. Kuhio was later reopened at 8 a.m.
This is Kauai's sixth traffic fatality for the year.
