HAWAII KAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -- It's been a battle over street lights in Hawaii Kai, but Thursday night new street lights along Lunalilo Home Road were activated and neighborhood board members gave the thumbs up, "The lights seem to be acceptable --- it's not the glaring light that we thought with three times the light."
Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board Chair, Greg Knudsen along with other board members have been fighting the city to install dimmer lights as part of their multi million dollar project -- and the city complied "We are elated that they listened and installed 100 watt bulbs with the flat glass". "We are elated. It's says a lot for the city", says Elizabeth Riley, Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board member.
The lights are being activated as part of an overnight test and inspection. The city is installing lights along Lunalillo Home Road from Kalanianaole Highway to Wailua to help drivers see better. The old lights will be deactivated and removed.
Back in September part of the project was put on hold by the Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, but either way the neighborhood board has always complained there's way too many going up.
The neighborhood board will have to tackle how many street light poles will remain, this issue will be discussed that along with the lights themselves at the next meeting board meeting on March 30th.
