HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Most hotels across Hawaii, those on Oahu and Maui, are running four-fifths full this winter, while Big Island and Kauai hotel occupancy remains lower.
In the latest weekly report by Hospitality Advisors LLC, covering the last seven days before March began, occupancy was down 7% from year-before levels in Kauai and Hawaii Counties, but up 7% in Maui County and the City and County of Honolulu.
Here are the occupancy rates by operating county, with the average room rates:
The average room rates are down 12% from last year on both Kauai and the Big Island. The report found only 9% discounting on Maui and 7% on Oahu, Hospitality Advisors reported Friday.
For the same seven days, national hotel occupancy was 55%, up 1 percentage point from last year, with room rates discounted an average 5%, Smith Travel Research reported. Occupancy was 63% in San Diego and 66% in Los Angeles.
