WAHIAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crews have fixed a broken water pipe in the Wahiawa town area on Sunday. Water has also been restored to all affected businesses. The Board of Water Supply says the pipe may have burst around 4 a.m. It's still investigating the cause of the break.
It caused some major problems for businesses and drivers on Super Bowl Sunday.
The six-inch water main break forced the northbound lane of Kamehameha Highway to shutdown at Avocado Street, leaving only one lane open. Eight businesses are still without water
Super Bowl Sunday is anything but "super" for businesses like L&L Drive-In. It opened Sunday morning, expecting to reap the rewards from one of the biggest take-out days of the year.
"Cannot sell the soda, there's a lot of time we need water for cooking to wash a lot of stuff, we really need the water," L&L Drive-In employee Winnie Cheng said.
But it still managed to sell most of the items on its menu. L&L says it sells double the amount of food on Super Bowl Sundays.
The Taco Bell not too far away closed down its dining room after finding out it had no water. But the drive-thru remained open with a steady load of customers.
But it not only caused some restaurants some headaches, it also caused some major traffic problems, as people tried to get to their Super Bowl parties.
"It took about 10 to 20 minutes to go a short distance," a driver said. "I thought it was more because of Super Bowl parties and stuff."
L&L Drive-In is hoping for a quick fix, so they can deliver on this "Super Sunday."
"A lot of phone orders, but good thing they're all for later, hopefully we have water soon," Cheng said.
