Big waves at Hookipa on Maui's north shore Tuesday afternoonHONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The high surf warning has already closed beaches. Ke Iki beach on Oahu's North Shore is now closed to swimmers. Ocean Safety is warning people to keep off of the beach, because of a large, short break.
On Kauai, the Ocean Safety Bureau reports 25-foot waves creating hazards from Hanalei pier west. The county is asking everyone to stay out of the water.
The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning for north and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and north-facing shores on the island of Maui. The warning is in effect until 6:00 AM Thursday.
Surf will drop slowly Wednesday night to 15 to 25 feet along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui. Surf will remain at heights of 10 to 20 feet along west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai through Wednesday night. The swell and surf will gradually diminish on Thanksgiving Day into Friday.
A high surf warning indicates that dangerous battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents.
