Kona man arrested for series of break-ins and vehicle thefts

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police have arrested 19-year-old Justin Gryde of Kona for 17 offenses in connection with a series of crimes in the Kailua-Kona area during October and November. Investigators say that Gryde broke into least four homes and one business in the Kailua-Kona area.

Police say that Gryde took vehicle keys from several of the homes and then subsequently stole the vehicles. He is also accused of stealing mopeds, credit cards and a large number of keys to residences and cars. All of the vehicles have been recovered by police.

Gryde was charged with four counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, three counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, five counts of residential burglary, one count of commercial burglary, one count of possessing personal/confidential information and three counts of second-degree theft. 

His bail has been set at $50,000. He remains at the Kealakehe police cellblock pending his initial court appearance.
