HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - House Democrats are siding with Senate Democrats about a special session to possibly end some school furlough days.
They just wrapped up a caucus on the issue, and say that they are willing to call the special convening of the legislature, only if the bargaining units are taking care of.
Lawmakers are referring to a part of the governor's plan to get rid of some furlough days, by asking teachers to switch out some of their non-instructional days for classroom time. The state would then work on getting $50 million out of the rainy day fund to help fund those additional days in school.
The senate president and speaker of the house also met with the governor this afternoon.
Hawaii News Now is looking into what the leaders spoke about, and will have any updates.
