HANALEI, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hanalei Elementary School will reopen on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, for all students and staff.
The Department of Water will provide a portable water tank to ensure there is safe water to drink, cook, and wash with. The Hanalei Elementary School PTSA will supply bottled water and water coolers for classrooms and designated areas.
Precautions have been taken by the school to secure all water faucets and drinking fountains until they may be used. Students and staff will be instructed to wash their hands at designated areas and to use the waterless hand sanitizers available in all classrooms.
The school had been closed on Monday after an interruption in water service in the area caused by recent heavy rains and flooding.
