WAILEA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 20-year tradition of hope for cancer patients, took off running on the Valley Isle.
Hundreds laced their shoes on Saturday, to either sprint or stroll on behalf of those who have either passed away from, or are suffering from cancer.
It's part of Four Seasons Resort Maui's annual Day of Hope 10k run, 5k walk.
Some also donated their ponytails to locks of love.
They'll be made into real hair pieces and wigs for keiki who are going through cancer treatments.
"I'm so excited to be here especially for this race, to race for hope," said runner Layla Sheikh. "Hope is everything. Without it, hope, we don't have anything."
"It's been yet another success, another record, over 300 runners," said Thomas Steinhauer of the Four Seasons Resort. "This day couldn't be any better."
The Day of Hope included a traditional Hawaiian canoe ceremony on Wailea Beach.
Paddlers made their way beyond the reef for a memorial dedicated to loved ones, who've lost their lives to cancer.
Organizers say this event has raised more than $2 million over the years.
The money goes towards cancer research and services in Hawaii.
