OMAO, Kauai (HAWAIINEWSNOW) - A 21-year-old Kalheo man died in a one-car crash early Wednesday morning in Omao.
According to a preliminary report, Preston Ramson was heading west in a Toyota MPVH on Kaumualii Hwy. when his vehicle ran off the roadway, clipped a utility pole and the end of Omao Bridge, and then fell 40 ft. to the bottom of a ravine.
The vehicle was discovered by patrol officers at around 1:37 Wednesday morning.
Both lanes of Kaumualii Hwy. were closed following the crash and traffic was re-routed until about 7:50 AM.
Speed and alcohol may have been factors in this crash. Ramson is the eighth traffic fatality on Kauai so far this year.
