WAIMANALO (KHNL) - A Waimanalo woman is expressing sadness and rage after a car crash killed two of her sons on Sunday. Joscelyn Givens wants to know what caused their car to veer off the road and crash upside down near Makapuu.

Police suspect the car was racing another vehicle. If that's the case, the mother of the two young men who died wants the other driver to come forward.

Joscelyn Givens is comforted by her only remaining son after a violent crash early Sunday morning. Her other boys, Benjamin Makekau III, 20, and Ikaikakane Makekau, 19, were killed when their car ran off Kalanianaole Highway, struck an embankment, went airborne, and crash landed on its roof on the Oceanic Institute property near Makapuu.

"Two sons. Not just one, but two," Givens said through tears. "And I am angry. I am so angry."

Police say Benjamin was behind the wheel. The Medical Examiner's office is still trying to determine whether he had alcohol or drugs in his system.

Investigators suspect another vehicle was racing the car carrying the two brothers.

"I don't know what happened," Givens said. "If had one other car involved and they was racing, come clean. That's my sons."

Family and friends leave flowers, beer and messages of love at the crash site. Lawrence Akau, Jr. wants people to know the Makekaus were great guys.

"They brought joy to everyone's life and whenever you needed somebody, they was always there for everybody," the crash victims' longtime friend said. "I can't believe this happened. I love them and I miss them."

"My boys was everything," Givens said. "They get plenty friends in Waimanalo and they were good boys."

Ben Makekau leaves behind two children.

Ikaika Makekau lived in Kona and flew to Oahu to watch his sister's hula performance Sunday night. He didn't make it.
