    The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team extended its home win streak to a new program-record 20 matches following a straight-set victory over 14th-ranked CSUN Friday in the first of two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-23, 26-24.   The teams play again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Following the match, Kupono Fey, Jennings Franciskovic, Hendrik Mol, and Iain McKellar will be honored.

    Under the lights at T.C. Ching Field Thursday night, the University of Hawaii football team put on the pads for the final time until fall camp. The last of 15 spring practices was a controlled scrimmage that began with a long Dru Brown touchdown pass to Dylan Collie and ended with Brown hooking up with John Ursua in the other end zone.

    This weekend will be the final home stand of the regular season for the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team when they host CSUN.  In all likelihood it won't be the last time the Rainbow Warriors play at the Stan Sheriff Center this season being that they're currently seeded to host in the first round of the MPSF Tournament.  It is, however, the last guaranteed match at home for the four seniors.

    The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team showed its moxie as it battled back to defeat Kansas in five sets in its third and final spring match of the year, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-11. McKenna Granato recorded a double-double with a match-high 17 kills and 12 digs while Emily Maglio added another double-double with 14 kills and a match-high 10 blocks on Tuesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

    The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free-agent defensive end Tyson Alualu to a two-year contract in hopes of bolstering their pass rush.      Alualu spent his first seven seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars but struggled to live up to his billing after the team drafted him 10th overall in 2010.

Fans have the chance to get their first glimpse of the 2017 Rainbow Warriors, while also enjoying a fun-filled afternoon of food, games, and prizes. Admission is free.   Gates open at 3:00 p.m. with food trucks, refreshment booths, and keiki games and activities. The team will be introduced at 4:15.

    The University of Hawai‘i baseball program has retired the jersey number of former Rainbow Warriors All-American second baseman Kolten Wong, 16th-year head coach Mike Trapasso announced during Sunday’s 15th annual Grand Slam Celebration.     The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team built a 20-point halftime lead then held off a furious second-half rally by UC Riverside for a 72-63 victory Thursday night at the UCR Student Rec Center. UH improved to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in the Big West with its first road win of the year.   With the win UH stayed in the thick of the Big West race, moved into a four-way tie for fourth in the conference standings.

    A combined 49 points from senior Briana Harris and junior Sarah Toeaina led the Hawai'i women's basketball team to its best offensive performance of the season as the Rainbow Wahine cruised past Cal Poly 87-79 on Thursday. Harris matched her career-high with 24 points and Toeaina added a career-high 25 as Hawai'i earned its first road victory of the season and won its second consecutive Big West Conference game to improve to 2-2 in the league and 6-10 overall.

Matches are 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m., each day.

    A pair of LA Dodgers are making Hawaii home for the holidays.  National League rookie of the year Corey Seager and all-star outfielder Joc Pederson are here for a little R&R, as well as giving a few tips to some youth baseball players on the island. Seager and Pederson have spent the last few days helping out at the Home Run Derby camp put on by Mid-Pac alum Donny Kadokawa along with the Kemoeatu Brothers Foundation.

    LaVell Edwards, who led BYU to national prominence with his dynamic passing offenses and became one of the most successful coaches in college football history, has died. He was 86.      Athletic department spokesman Brett Pyne said Edwards died Thursday.      Edwards coached the Cougars for 29 seasons before retiring in 2000. He had a record of 257-101-3, the seventh-most wins in FBS history.
