The home in Wahiawa where the pet dog was allegedly shot on Sunday.WAHIAWA (KHNL) -- A dispute between a Wahiawa landlord and his tenant took a violent turn Sunday. The 51-year-old landlord is accused of killing his tenant's dog after the dog bit him. Police say the dog bite was not serious.
A plastic kennel sits empty in the front yard of a home on Nakula Street. Police say a man broke into his tenant's unit Sunday and shot her dog dead.
Officers arrested Kenneth Hood, 51, on suspicion of first-degree burglary and animal cruelty. He's the landlord of the multi-unit property and lives across the driveway from the victim.
Hours before the deadly shooting, investigators say the tenant's pit bull bit the landlord's hand. The landlord allegedly armed himself with a rifle, entered the 19-year-old woman's unit when no one was home and opened fire on the dog.
Another neighbor said she was surprised to hear about the violent incident. She describes the suspect as a kind and hard-working man.
It appears this wasn't the first run-in between the landlord and his tenant. Court records indicate Hood filed a civil complaint against the woman three weeks ago. The matter is pending.
Hood remains locked up at H.P.D.'s main cellblock. Charges are pending.
