HONOLULU (KHNL) - A "Better City, Better Life," is the motto for Shanghai's 2010 World Expo and also the theme students from Hawaii and China took on together for three short films.
Up on the silver screen these films will be the first ever made by a collaboration of university film students from the US and China.
The 2008 Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival will feature the three films created by the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Academy for Creative Media and the Shanghai University's School of Film and Television Art & Technology.
Bamboo Pole, Birthday Gift and With Me were written, produced and directed by the international student teams and shot on location in Shanghai in both Chinese and English.
"We are especially proud that Hawai‘i students are leading the groundbreaking initiative of international co-productions with China," said ACM Chair and Professor Tom Brislin. "The Hawai‘i International Film Festival is the ideal place to give these films a world premiere."
The films will be shown October 14 at 6 pm at the Regal Dole Cannery Theatres.
The state Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, Hawai‘i Film Office and the Hawai‘i State Legislature provided support for the Hawai‘i-China Film Development Programs.
