Posted: Updated:

WINDWARD OAHU (KHNL) -  Kahana State Beach Park in windward Oahu has been opened.  The beach was closed after a shark attacked a surfer Tuesday.

On the Big Island, Hapuna State Recreation Area (Hapuna Beach and Waialea Bay) remains closed in entirety.

Spencer County Beach Park is closed for maintenance.

The beach parks were closed after several shark sightings.

On September 8, there were confirmed reports of 15 large sharks, ranging in size from 6 to 15 feet, from Waialea Bay to Kawaihae Small Boat Harbor area.

The species of the sharks is still unknown.
