HONOLULU (KHNL) - More than $900,000 in state funds will be used to improve Hawaii's public libraries on Oahu, Maui and Lanai.
At the Kahului Public Library on Maui, $400,000 will cover the design and construction to replace the library's air-conditioning units which are more than 20 years old.
The Lanai Public and School Library will also get new air conditioning units that will cost $200,000.
Kahuku and Waimanalo Public and School libraries on Oahu will receive more than $300,000 in reroof improvements. Due to aging and weathering, the existing roofs leak in many areas and are beyond repair. Both libraries were last reroofed more than 20 years ago.
Governor Linda Lingle says the projects will help protect library materials and ensure the comfort of patrons and staff.
