Mark's Place

It's kind of hard to find but boy is it worth the hunt. Cheap Eats Kauai style this week takes us just outside Lihue to Mark's Place in Puhi.

The wok is flaming and the chicken's grilling. For the past four years Mark's Place has been serving up ono local style food. Mark's Place is tucked away in a building that looks more like a house in the Puhi industrial park about five miles west of Lihue. Plate lunches start at $5.50.

Korean chicken is one of owner Mark Oyama's specialties. "We sell a lot of it."

Mark's is about five miles out of Lihue, in an area that's kind of tucked away in an industrial area but yet it is always full. What's the secret.

"Treasures are always hard to find right. We want to keep it that way, make it a fun place to find. And the secret is our dedicated staff for the quality and service that we push out over here. So that's the best thing that we got over here. That's our treasure," says Mark.

After the breaded chicken is deep fried, it's dunked into Mark's secret Korean sauce. After a short swim, it's loaded onto a bed of noodles.

There's also a list of daily specials.

Customers say Mark's isn't the easiest to find, but the hunt is worth it.

"Great food, taste great, great prices," says Russell Yotsuda.
