KAHULUI, Maui (KHNL) - The County of Maui's Department of Environmental Management reported that a spill of approximately 1300 gallons occurred at 9:50 a.m. on Friday and was stopped shortly thereafter.
The 20-inch forcemain break occurred near the intersection of Amala Place and Hobron Avenue in Kahului.
The spill occurred when a contractor working in the area punctured the forcemain; the spill was immediately contained by a dirt berm constructed by the contractor. Standing water was removed and the area was disinfected.
Wastewater did not reach the ocean, and the Department of Health was notified.
