Volunteers to Clean Kawaikui Beach on World Ocean Day

HAWAII KAI (KHNL) -- In celebration of World Ocean Day, volunteers from the Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii (B.E.A.C.H.) plan to do a clean-up at Kawaikui Beach on Sunday, June 1 from 7:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Volunteers will remove invasive algae and litter from the shoreline.  They say careful removal of invasive algae from the beach will help reduce growth of invasive algae in the bay.

The public is invited to join in the clean-up effort.

Volunteers need to register by Friday, May 30 by calling 393-2168.

The event is part of the 2008 International Year of the Reef.

World Ocean Day is celebrated with activities worldwide.
