Hundreds Flock to See Ancient and Sacred Buddhist Relics On Maui

Updated:

Kahului, Maui (KHNL) -- A rare international exhibit of ancient and sacred Buddhist Relics are on Maui, the weekend of Feb. 22 - 24, for the first time on its around the world tour. The exhibit will only be shown in Hawaii in Honolulu and in Maui during this world tour.

This "Heart Shrine Relic Tour" is an authentic and rare collection of historically significant and culturally unique sacred relics of the historical Buddha and many other important Buddhist masters.

The tour has been traveling around the world since 2001, dedicated to the promotion of peace and loving-kindness across all faiths and beliefs. There have been more than 100 exhibitions throughout the US, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia and Europe.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who visited Maui last April to overflowing crowds, recommended this remarkable collection be shown around the world to inspire world peace until it is enshrined within a 500 ft. statue of the Buddha, Maitreya which is being constructed in India. At that time, the relics will never be seen again. He says "...from the depths of my heart, I appreciate and applaud this wonderful project. You should realize that this is a really holy and sacred project."

This unique exhibit is open to public viewing, free of charge (but donations are welcome), the weekend of February 23 & 24 from 10 am to 7 pm each day at Maui Community College's Laulima Building. The Tour is co-sponsored by The Maui Dharma Center and VITEC-Maui Community College.
