HONOLULU (KHNL) -  With school back in session, teachers can now take advantage of a free offer designed to protect students online.

A software company is pledging to give away millions of dollars of monitoring software to schools across the nation.

The program is called "PC Pandora's Safe School" and every school district can download it for free.

Access to the internet has taken students far beyond the walls of classroom, but with that reach, comes a growing set of problems.

Michelle Aquino is the computer lab teacher at Farrington High School.

"We have a lot of students that get connected with the wrong types of people then that gets really troubling," said Aquino.

Now Aquino and teachers across the nation can help protect students with this software for free.

Pc Pandora is offering $100,000 worth of "Safe School" software, a program for teachers to monitor and control students' online activity. The program filters and blocks functions and keeps a record of all actions on the computer screen.

"From the schools perspective, it helps them cut down on issues on file sharing and activity that students are not supposed to be doing, for the kids, it helps them to make sure they're not being distracted while they're at school and in the computer lab," said PC Pandora Co-founder, James Leasure.

Aquino says managing a class of this size is a challenge so she's willing to try out the new software.

"Because it's free, it's accessible for everybody so I would definitely want to try that and see how it would help me manage my classroom, especially this classroom."
