Boy's Therapy Dog Found

KALIHI (KHNL) - The search is over. The lost dog that has been the center of attention lately, has been found. It's not just a pet, the dog is therapy for a needy little boy.

Friday, Missy the chihuahua was all over the news. The next day, the dog was reunited with her family in Kalihi. Missy was dropped off late saturday afternoon.

She is 6-year-old Chance Matthews's therapy dog. Chance's parents say he found comfort in Missy. The little boy is medically fragile - blind in one eye, partially blind in the other, partially deaf, and has to breathe through a tube.

His mom, Lei Ho, says Chance has been uneasy since missy went missing Wednesday. But last night, the Pacheco family found the chihuahua wandering near Dillingham and Waikamilo.

"They had picked her up and she lives in Waipahu and they took her home and they saw the news and so as soon as they saw the news they called right away," says Ho.

The Pacheco family was too humble to accept the $500 reward. A doctor from Kauai donated the reward money.

Lei says he's still going to try and give the money to the Pacheco's. Chance's parents say they want to thank the entire community for helping bring Missy back.

They say if it wasn't for them, her family wouldn't be complete.
