Landing a reporter gig in Hawaii has been my dream job since I first stepped foot on the islands on a family vacation during my college years.
No, wait. Scratch that.
Actually, my dream job is to be a guitarist for Linkin Park or a fighter pilot.
But seeing that I've only racked up a year of guitar lessons, and let too many years pass by to fly an F-16, the next best thing is to report on the rock stars and heroes of the world.
Which works out well, because I love to write. I was born with a pen in my hand, red ink is in my blood.
In 4th grade, I wrote my first poem, and it actually rhymed! In high school, I was the -Editor-In Chief of our award-winning yearbook. And in college, I armed myself with a B.A. degree in Broadcast Journalism at San Francisco State University to satisfy my thrill-seeking alter ego. (Skydiving, white water rafting, and ziplining are just a few things I've already checked off on my adventure list.)
News is about the extraordinary. As a journalist, you get a front row seat, if not a backstage pass, to some of Life's most colorful personalities and intriguing stories. And embedded in every story, whether it's of triumph or tragedy, is a lesson learned. Those life lessons are what I value most as a newscaster.
My Reporting/Anchoring journey started in 2000 at CTV 30 in Pleasanton, CA, then on to WKOW as a proud cheese head in beautiful Madison, WI, before landing in Hawaii in 2007 to work for KHNL/K5 News.
So far, it's been an adventure I wouldn't dare trade...unless Linkin Park, the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels come knocking on my door, of course.
