WAIMEA, HAWAII (KHNL)- Water is again flowing again at a Hawaii Island ditch damaged by the October quake.

The waterway is a lifeline for the community so that is why farmers joined the National Guard and, working side by side, cleaned the Waimea Ditch. State Civil Defense organized the effort, which took nearly 60 people to clear out 300 cubic yards of debris. After this cleanup, the ditch now supplies Waimea residents with 600 thousand gallons of water a day.

Ed Teixeira, vice director of State Civil Defense, says, "The Waimea farming community depends on the water from Waimea Ditch. It's always been an abundant supply, giving 1-2 million gallons a day. The quake cut off that supply with the debris."

There are still two other ditches needing help- the Kohala Ditch and Lower Hamakua Ditch.
