3/16 The Dobelle Prize

A new University of Hawaii president has been named, a gentleman with outstanding credentials, experience and character.

Positive comments from co-workers, subordinates and associates have been coming from all across Evan Dobelle's past.

From San Francisco to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to Hartford, Connecticut, Dobelle has left a positive mark wherever he has been.

The challenge now is to enhance UH's reputation in the academic world, to secure quality teaching talent, to solidify autonomy, to deal with morale issues and nagging cutbacks year after year, and to bring everyone together.

A grand challenge it is.

Here's hoping that Dobelle's inclusive nature, his commitment to community and excellence, and his visionary persona play out well as UH boldly goes forward into the 21st century. It will help for everyone involved to rally around and leave their egos and historical gripes at the door. Think about it...
