SWANTON, Ohio (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney left Ohio today to begin a nonstop leg campaigning that will bring him to Hawaii.
Cheney and his wife, Lynne, are scheduled to attend a Republican Party rally in Honolulu late tonight.
Governor Lingle says she expects about ten-thousand people to pack the Hawaii Convention Center.
She says the Vice President's visit will be a tremendous boost to a state which traditionally has played little or no role in deciding the outcome of the presidential race.
Cheney's visit will mark the first for a candidate on the presidential ticket in more than four decades.
No major party candidate has campaigned in Hawaii since Richard Nixon in 1960 before he lost to John Kennedy.
Before he left Ohio, Cheney accused Senator John Kerry of turning his back on U-S troops in order to get ahead.
Cheney says Kerry "is not a steadfast leader. Our president is."
