BYU Student Dies in Provo Park Playing Ultimate Frisbee

PROVO, Utah (AP) - A Brigham Young University student from Hawaii is dead after his heart apparently stopped while playing ultimate Frisbee in a Provo park.

Family members say 21-year-old Jake Tyler Whetten was playing ultimate Frisbee with his friends Saturday when he collapsed.

An autopsy has been performed but his cause of death has not yet been determined.

The death of the six-foot-seven former water polo goalie came as a shock to everyone who knew him.

Whetten was a sophomore from Laie and he played goalie for the water polo team at Kahuku High School.

His funeral will be held Friday. B-Y-U officials say they'll lower the flag to half staff in front of the school's administration building to remember him.
