(Volcano, Hawaii) -- A fiery stream of lava is inching toward the ocean at Kilauea Volcano this week, affording some of the best views of flow in nearly a year.

Officials at the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say the flow became visible Sunday morning and moved rapidly across a flat, coastal area toward the water.

It was last tracked just about a half mile from the ocean and viewable by taking a mile and a half hike from the end of Chain of Craters Road in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

There's no telling if the lava will continue toward the ocean, but if it does, visitors can expect a spectacular show.

Cliffs along the coast are about 30 to 50 feet high.

As lava drops off, it can create crowd-pleasing explosions and fantastic views of red hot flow.
