HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Pro-choice supporters teamed up with union backers at a joint rally at the State Capitol Saturday. The event was just part of protests that were organized nationwide.

Some demonstrators showed up to voice their outage over a congressional bill that would take away federal funding for abortions.

Others came to protest Wisconsin's budget-cutting bill, which they consider an attack on unions. The measure would strip most Wisconsin state workers of the bulk of their collective bargaining rights.

"This is such an important issue because unions fight for fair worker rights," said Bridget Bond, who supports the Wisconsin worker unions. "It has a trickle-down effect."

However, not everyone supported the unions.

"I'm in support of the governor of Wisconsin," said Lowell Brown. "I think that the unions have too much power."

The Wisconsin bill must still clear the state senate. Fourteen Democratic Senators have fled to Illinois to prevent a quorum from voting on the issue. Wisconsin's governor has urged them to return to the legislature, and defended his bill.
