Disaster Alert made available for Android OS

(HONOLULU, HawaiiNewsNow) - People who use Android-driven devices can now use a University of Hawaii program called Disaster Alert created by their Pacific Disaster Center program.

It gives users access to worldwide hazard and disaster event information.

There are 12 different types of hazards that are made available by the application, or app, ranging from drought to storms, and from volcanoes to high surf.

Due to the success from the iPhone, iPad and iTouch versions (and the iOS version has been downloaded 65,000 times since its release in July 2010), the app was made available for the Android operating system.

The information comes in several ways: an option to see an interactive map, another to see quick-view lists and an option to see detailed information on a single event.
