HCC to unveil sculpture dedicated to nonviolence

HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu Community College is set to unveil a sculpture dedicated to nonviolence.

The bronze sculpture of a .45-caliber handgun whose barrel is tied into a knot also is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the shooting death of the Beatles' John Lennon.

The dedication of the art work on Wednesday is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. in the cafeteria of Honolulu Community College, which is located on Dillingham Boulevard.

The event is titled "Imagine," the name of one of Lennon's solo hits that was released in 1971.

The sculpture was brought to Hawaii through the work of the Non-Violence Alliance, Victory Over Violence Youth Initiative and the efforts of state Rep. John Mizuno.
