HONOLULU (AP) - Free blood pressure, eye and glucose tests are being offered at Makaha Beach on Saturday during the 25th Annual Rell Sunn Menehune Surf Contest.
The health screenings are being provided by the Rell Sunn Education Fund and the University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Rep. Maile Shimabukuro, a Democrat representing Waianae and Makua, said she's helping promote the testing as a way to assist residents who may not have access to health insurance.
She says people without health insurance often wait until the last minute before seeking medical treatment, and the screenings will help prevent health problems before they become severe.
