WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui's current and former mayors ended their tug-of-war over the County's top seat. Alan Arakawa defeated Charmaine Tavares in the race for Maui mayor.
In the final printout, Arakawa led Tavares with 58.83 percent of the votes. Tavares finished with 41.17 percent of the votes.
In the first printout, Arakawa led Tavares with 53 percent of the votes. Arakawa held the lead in the second printout with 59 percent of the votes.
Arakawa takes back his position as Mayor after losing it to Tavares in 2006.
