HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii has been ranked among the world's top 200 universities in a recent publication. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2010-2011 placed UH at number 115 overall in its annual listing.

The survey looks at a full range of university activities, including teaching, research and citations. The list was compiled over 10 months with over 50 higher education experts providing input. The University of Hawaii scored particularly high in the category of citations, which is defined as the number of times a university's published work is cited by academics, and is said to reflect the level of confidence that the global academic community has in the quality of an institution's research.

One notable conclusion of the listing is the preeminence of American universities. All of the top five institutions are in the United States. The number one school, Harvard, was at the top of four of the six categories studied in the survey. 72 of the 200 universities were in the US.

The top five schools were in order: Harvard, Cal Tech, MIT, Stanford and Princeton.
