HONOLULU (AP) - Three centers at the University of Hawaii at Manoa are set to sponsor a concert featuring the Chinese seven-stringed plucked instrument known as the guqin.
The event will be highlighted by a performance by Beijing-based Master Li Xiang Ting.
A guqin is the modern name for an ancient instrument in the zither family. It is China's oldest stringed instrument and was a symbol of high culture through its association with the literati and cultural elite.
The concert will be hosted by the Center for Chinese Studies, the Confucius Institute, and the Ethnomusicology Program, It will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at UH's Orvis Auditorium.
