HONOLULU (AP) - A University of Hawaii professor and expert on Hawaii history is to be honored for many years of community service.
Jonathan Osorio of the Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge has been named the recipient of the 2010 Robert W. Clopton Award.
The award recognizes a faculty member at UH's Manoa campus who has played a socially significant role by applying intellectual leadership and academic expertise to the improvement of the community.
In addition to history, Osorio is an expert on Hawaii music, identity, indigenous civil rights and social justice.
He and other UH award recipients will be recognized at annual UH convocation on Sept. 14.
