Tropical Depression Felicia: Latest forecast

Updated:

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Felicia is now a dissipating tropical depression, but it could still bring heavy rainfall to parts of the islands. At 11:00 AM Tuesday, the center of Felicia was 120 miles east of Kahului, Maui, around 220 miles east-southeast of Honolulu. The storm currently has sustained winds of around 35 miles per hour.

Felicia is expected to remain at tropical depression strength when she makes landfall Tuesday with sustained winds of around 30-35 miles per hour. The strongest winds of the system will be on the northern end.

"Maui should first feel the effects with the heavier rains starting Tuesday morning, moving into the afternoon for them, with rainfall amounts of two to three inches, maybe localized to five inches. Oahu, starting Tuesday evening, going through the night with rainfall possibilities of two to three inches, localized to six inches. Be aware that with those heavy, six-inch rains there could be some isolated flooding" said Jim Weyman, director of the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

A flash flood watch is now up for the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe.

Felicia is now tracking west at around 9 miles per hour. The storm continues to move to the west.

High surf conditions are also expected along the eastern shores of all islands; expect wave faces of 10-15 feet Tuesday and Wednesday
