ALA MOANA (KHNL) - Last week, we showed you when our own Howard Dashefsky got a facial, manicure and pedicure at a spa for men, complete with beers, sports magazines and cigars.
Now, we show you a different kind of salon, this one is for dogs.
A day at a dog park is guaranteed fun and great exercise. But after all that huffing and puffing, whether you're human or have four legs, getting pampered is always a treat.
We found a salon where all the Snoopy's and Goofy's on the island can get just that.
It's a Vidal Sassoon slash Heaven on Earth for dogs, a beauty salon on Kapiolani Boulevard in Ala Moana that takes grooming to a whole new level.
"This is a ginkgo pack. Gingko pack is for damaged skin and hair," said Nanako Puckett, owner of Beauty Salon for Doggies, pointing to the variety of body treatments she offers.
She says, depending on what treatment is chosen, the body treatments detox and moisturize furry friends like Adam, who chose a mud bath.
And for those needing a makeover, like Benji?
Here he is before, and here's Benji after his blue and yellow highlights.
There's a palette of all the hair colors customers can choose from but it doesn't end there. There are also a variety of hair bows, regardless of whether your pet is a boy or girl, and there's even hair extensions.
"I like bows in their hair."
"Even though it's a boy?"
"Yes. That's why I chose Maltese because they look cute with their ribbons," said Jodi Suehiro, Benji's mom.
Beauty Salon for Doggies opened after Puckett and her husband had a bad experience with their own dog.
"Several years ago we had a Maltese so we took him to a groomer and when we got him back he had ear infections and he was still wet," said Robert Puckett, Nanako's husband.
So Puckett took the dog grooming into her own hands, got training, then opened up shop in Ala Moana. Since then, her talent has grown from scissors and combs, to hair coloring and healthy skin tones.
"After their grooming, they're a fresh dog, you know, happy smile, even dogs smile, so that makes me happy," said Puckett.
Puckett says she got the idea of doggie highlights and body treatments from a magazine from Japan, where she says salons like hers are popular.
