WAIKIKI (KHNL) - An Oahu woman's missing persons case has gone cold, nearly a year after her disappearance.
But her husband holds out hope she will return.
A beautiful day brings many out to the ocean.
But for Stan Jacobs, even this scenic setting cannot wash away the painful reality that his wife is still missing.
"Its difficult to spend anytime by myself, cause the memories of Kimberly come flooding in," said Jacobs.
Especially at the Elks Club, which was a favorite hangout for the couple.
"We'd sit out here on the lanai overlooking the ocean and hug. Kimberly loves the ocean, she would go out for swims from here. She also made it the spot to bring our granddaughter."
But 10 months ago, Kimberly vanished from their Waikiki apartment, without a trace.
"All of Kimberly's stuff was in the house, all of her stuff was here, her cell phone, her passport, credit cards and cash."
For Stan, the only explanation for Kimberly's disappearance is tied to the ocean she loves so much.
"For her to have left this island, was for her to have gotten on a sailboat."
Numerous searches turned up nothing of the 47 year old woman who walks with a limp.
As days without Kimberly stretched into weeks then months, some turned their suspicion to Stan for the disappearance. A suspicion he understands.
"I'd seen the same TV movie of the week that everybody else did - that the spouse did it. And there is a statistical reason for that. The only two people in the world who know I didn't do anything to Kimberly are Kimberly and me"
Instead of dwelling on the dark memory of her disappearance, Stan is instead, trying to focus on an important day in Kimberly's life.
"June 30th is Kimberly's birthday - she'll be 48. We're inviting a bunch of people here to the Elks Club to commemorate her birthday and get the word out that she is still missing.."
Stan says Kimberly used to celebrate her birthday not just on the day but for the entire month of June.
