Army drops charges against Watada

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Attorneys for the Hawaii-born army officer who refused to go to Iraq say that the U.S Army will not pursue any more charges in the case. First Lt. Ehren Watada three years ago refused to be deployed to Iraq.

Honolulu attorney Eric Seitz says the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today granted the Army's motion to dismiss the case.

Watada's first court martial in February 2007 ended in a mistrial. Watada has been assigned a desk job at Fort Lewis in Washington state since 2006.

Watada's term of service in the military ended in December 2006, but the legal proceedings have prevented his discharge.
