EWA (KHNL) - Tuesday's deadly shooting itself happened in a residential neighborhood in Ewa. Police found Royal Kaukani, the 25-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the face, sitting in a black Hummer SUV.  It turned the quiet Ewa neighborhood into chaos.

"All I heard were gunshots and then this guy on a motorcycle took off," said witness Janere Quijano.

Chopper 8 flew over as investigators analyzed the crime scene.  Police weren't sure who it was Tuesday afternoon, but said 31-year-old Albert Nofoa is "a person of interest."  He's the former boyfriend of Kaukani.

Police say Nofoa was arrested for threatening kidnapping and assaulting her last September and then again for the same crimes last month.

Court documents show Kaukani has a protective order against Nofoa until 2028.  Officials say he recently called her on the phone.

"We still weren't comfortable with the fact that he was out there as recently as this morning. We had officers sitting in the location he frequents," said Maj. Frank Fujii, a spokesperon with the Honolulu Police Department.

The victim's black Hummer was towed away Tuesday afternoon.  All that's left were marks on the street. But the neighbors say the worries this heinous crime brings, doesn't wash away.

"It's really shocking there is always little kids playing out here and I saw someone get shot. It's really crazy," said Quijano.

Kaukani was pronounced dead at The Queen's Medical Center just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
