HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawai’i softball players Nicole Lopez and Izzo Dino earned weekly honors from the Big West conference after their standout play this past weekend.
Lopez, was voted Big West Player of the Week, after leading Hawai’i to a 5-2 record while posting a team-high .522 batting average. The senior third baseman has started all seven games, while recording 12 hits in 23 at bats. She also leads the team in hits, doubles (3), home runs (4) and runs scored (10).
This past weekend against Canisius she racked up a 3-3 afternoon while blasting a pair of two run homers, to finish with four RBI in a 7-2 Hawai’i victory.
This is Lopez’s second career Big West Conference Field Player of the week award.
Izzy Dino earned her first career Big West Softball Freshman of the Week award after compiling three stellar efforts on the mound this past weekend.
The Freshman posted a 2-0 record this past week with a blistering 0.44 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched. She walked just four while striking out 10 batters in three appearances.
In Dino’s only start of the tournament against Canisius, and she threw a complete game giving up just five hits and one run in a 4-1 victory. She entered the next few games in relief efforts and threw a combined nine innings of shutout softball.
She also earned the win Friday’s 3-2 victory over New Mexico, throwing 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed.
The Wahine softball team is next back in action Mar. 6 against Saint Bonaventure in the first round Outrigger Resorts Hawai’i Spring Fling Tournament.
