HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii baseball team took home their first win of the season via a 9-5 victory over the Portland Pilots Saturday night at Les Murakami season.
The contest was the third game of a four game home series to start the year.
The visiting Pilots had won two of the first three, with their second victory coming earlier in the afternoon in a 7-4 win to kickoff the double header on Saturday.
The Warriors overcame a three run deficit in the bottom of the eighth due to an offensive explosion that featured seven runs and another home run for red-shirt sophomore Alex Baeza.
Dallas Duerte proved to be the steady catalyst at the dish as he batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and freshman Cade Halemanu earned the victory after pitching a 1.1 inning shutout in his college debut.
Hawaiʻi and Portland will wrap up the series Sunday, Feb. 17 at Les Murakami Stadium.
