Basebows fall in home opener 10-4

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It wasn’t the opening night that fans were hoping for to start the 2019 baseball season.

The rain would fall heavy at times but remained consistent throughout the evening, unfortunately so did the hitting for the Portland Pilots.

UH and Portland entered the 10th inning tied at four until the Pilots erupted for six runs in the top of the frame and secured the road victory. The visiting team tallied 17 total hits on the evening to just nine for UH.

Ethan Lopez led the way for the Warriors batting a sizzling 3 for 4 at the plate and Jeremy Wu-Yelland started the first half of the game strong from the mound. The sophomore lefty went 5.1 innings tallying seven strikeouts while giving up three runs on six hits, his performance earned him the no decision.

Freshman Calvin Turchin took the loss as he gave up six runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings and first baseman Alex Baeza notched the first home run of the 2019 campaign with a two run blast out to right center-field in the sixth inning.

The Warriors will have a chance at revenge when the two teams face off for a double header Saturday, Feb 16. the first game will begin at 1:05 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
