HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An offensive outburst in the third quarter lifted the Rainbow Wahine to an impressive 72-49 victory over UC Santa Barbara Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
With the win, Hawaii (10-13, 6-4 BWC) has exceeded their win total from last season in conference play.
"We were never worried about bouncing back," said head coach Laura Beeman. "This team has shown all year they can bounce back after tough losses, like the one we had over the weekend at Long Beach State. What we have to do is be consistent. We need to take the momentum we had tonight and carry it into the weekend. I want to see this team rolling like it was in the third quarter tonight when Long Beach State comes here on Saturday."
The ‘Bows scored 30 points in the third quarter, a season-high, to pull away from the Gauchos and put the game to rest early.
Makenna Woodfolk and Jadynn Alexander combined for 15 unanswered points, building a 20-point lead going into the final quarter of play.
Junior guard Courtney Middap led the offensive attack with a team-high 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Next up will be a showdown against Long Beach State on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. HT.
