Slow start dooms Hawaii against UC Irvine in 67-56 loss

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A lackluster first half cost the Rainbow Warrior basketball team dearly Saturday evening against UC Irvine, losing to the Anteaters on the road 67-56.

Hawaii (14-9, 5-4 BWC) scored just 18 points in the opening 20 minutes of action while surrendering 33 to UC Irvine.

The ‘Bows came back strong in the second half and actually outscored the Anteaters 38-34 to end the game, but the Warriors couldn’t get stops when they needed to in their late comeback bid.

Jack Purchase and Sheriff Drammeh led the way for Hawaii offensively, tallying 11 points apiece while Drew Buggs registered nine points while dishing out eight assists.

With the loss, the Warriors have dropped two of their last three games and will come back home to take on Cal Poly on Thursday, February 14th at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. HT.
